The Future of Tarantino Without Sally Menke

On Monday, rumors began leaking out that proved fact: Quentin Tarantino is prepping his next film, a spaghetti western to star Christop Waltz. Naturally, I popped in my Blu-Ray of Inglourious Basterds as a way to celebrate. The film remains as fresh as it did when I first watched it back in August 2009. A year and a half later, I'm pretty much ready to declare it Tarantino's best. One of the priceless special features included on the disc is called "Hi Sally." During filming of Basterds, at the end of many takes, the actor in the shot will give a shout out to editor Sally Menke with a "Hi Sally!" This was a common practice on all Tarantino films, a surprise greeting for Sally in her editing bay while she was furiously piecing together a Tarantino film. The relationship between Tarantino and Menke has been one of the most heartwarming collaborations I've read about in movie making.
