The Walking Dead: An Honest Assessment
I've watched every episode of The Walking Dead that's aired. I've been with it since the beginning. I've read the graphic novels. I love zombies. I love the horror genre. I have the credentials to state what I'm about to state. I hate to break this news to many of you: the show just isn't that good.

My Perfects: The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
"My Perfects" is an ongoing series of essays about films I consider, well, to be perfect. It is not a series of film reviews. It should go without saying these are four star films. Every aspect regarding these films are flawless. This is filmmaking at its best. These are moments of cinematic history. They are the reasons I devote so much of my life to film. Mega-spoilers lurk beyond.

The Future of Tarantino Without Sally Menke
On Monday, rumors began leaking out that proved fact: Quentin Tarantino is prepping his next film, a spaghetti western to star Christop Waltz. Naturally, I popped in my Blu-Ray of Inglourious Basterds as a way to celebrate. The film remains as fresh as it did when I first watched it back in August 2009. A year and a half later, I'm pretty much ready to declare it Tarantino's best. One of the priceless special features included on the disc is called "Hi Sally." During filming of Basterds, at the end of many takes, the actor in the shot will give a shout out to editor Sally Menke with a "Hi Sally!" This was a common practice on all Tarantino films, a surprise greeting for Sally in her editing bay while she was furiously piecing together a Tarantino film. The relationship between Tarantino and Menke has been one of the most heartwarming collaborations I've read about in movie making.

Why Robert De Niro No Longer Matters
Let's get down to brass tacks. Robert De Niro has destroyed his status as one of the greatest actors of our time. His career hasn't merely gotten of track. This isn't a bump in the road. There's no more saying "If he doesn't stop doing this, he's going to taint his reputation." It's too late. His reputation is well tainted. His career choices over the past ten years cannot be forgiven. That's not the worst of it. With a new generation only knowing De Niro through his "Fockers" role, the amazing legacy he once had may not even be remembered.

How We All Helped Kill The Video Store
Earlier this week it was announced that Blockbuster has put whatever remains of itself up for sale. While still operating stores aren't necessarily closing right away, it's basically the final nail in the coffin for the entire video rental industry. Hollywood Video is long gone and only two independent video stores still stand in my area (Western Massachusetts). That's two more than what usually exists in most areas. It's only matter of time before all remaining video stores shutter up their windows, independent or not. The video store is dead. It will never be return. And it's kind of our fault.

Franchise Sterilization: Making Sex and Violence Fun For the Whole Family!
Last week it was announced that Die Hard 5 has found a director. I know, I know. Who besides Bruce Willis gives a shit? Just by hearing this piece of information, I once again have to relive all the horror from Live Free or Die Hard (God, I hate saying that title). I'm not talking about the quality of the film. I'm talking about the sterilization process the franchise went through.

Proper Etiquette For Movie Discussion
Nothing gets the blood pumping and the heart racing like a good old spirited film debate. Sometimes we get so damn passionate about the films we love (or perhaps hate) that we run our mouths off and spoil something or, god forbid, hurt someone's feelings. Lord knows I'm guilty of this. The following are tips to ensure a fun, friendly, and lively discussion that won't end in stabbing a voodoo doll to hurt your friend or loved one. I'm not pretending to be better than anyone else. Even I still have to remember these little suggestions to maintain peace among friends.
